The former finance minister under Kabila spoke about the situation the country is going through after the depreciation of the exchange rate which is making headlines in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
“If today, I was appointed Minister of Finance of the DRC, I would be able to stabilize the macro-economic framework”?
The answer is yes because I did it, it’s not a promise, it’s not bragging. When I arrived as Minister of Finance, the exchange rate was depreciating every day, it is not a secret. I found the exchange rate at 890 (Congolese francs), and I kept it at 890 for a long time. It rose to 900 (Congolese francs), and it remained at 900 almost for 5 years.
“Today, I carry 900 here at the request of the population, I circulate throughout the country, and the population tells me: you are dad 900 because, in your time, the rate was stabilized at 900”, notes Matata Ponyon.
It should be noted that the former Minister of Finance and Prime Minister at the time of JKK is the future candidate for the presidential elections next December.
